Wintersweet

Wintersweet a walk in Stamford

Wintersweet a walk in Stamford

There's lots to be inspired by at the this time of year, hints of colour peep through the grey walls of winter, a new perfume lingers in the air and the longer days are becoming more apparent.

Taking a familiar walk I venture out in search of wildflowers and wasn't disappointed. Uffington graveyard hosts a fantastic carpet laid with snowdrops and aconites.  Their appearance each year brings an instant joy fix.

Wintersweet in Progress

The combination of decaying earth and new life inspire new mini-worlds.  Here's an insight into a current work in progress.

Initial sketches made out on location are then translated into further drawn concepts for my sculpted pieces.  Using a combination of Indian ink, graphite and soft pastel I wanted to capture something of the movement and darkness of winter with the emergence of new life particularly the dots of yellow Wintersweet flowers.
